Known nationwide to prominent figures and their spouses, John M. D’Arco is recognized for handling the most complex and contentious family law disputes. He represents high-profile business owners, corporate executives, professional athletes, lawyers, doctors, accountants, and their spouses in matters pertaining to divorce, custody, complex division of assets, child and spousal support, paternity, and business valuation, while maintaining the privacy needs of his diverse clientele.  He is known for his financial and business acumen, keen sense of the divorce law governing the practice, unparalleled experience litigating and negotiating countless high stakes divorce and family law matters, exceptional trial litigation skills, and the ability to get results for his clients while maintaining the sanctity and privacy of the family.

While a tenacious divorce and family law litigator, Mr. D’Arco is no stranger to what divorce can do to a family, as he was a child who witnessed and experienced his parents divorcing when he was at the young age of ten. Mr. D’Arco’s primary goal is to assist his clients in resolving difficult family matters and helping them move forward with their lives in a dignified and respectful manner. Recognizing that not every situation requires a courtroom, Mr. D’Arco resolves some cases through negotiation, as warranted by the particular circumstances of a case and the client’s individual needs.

His work to diverse clients regularly earns him praise for the ability to bring calm to the storm and for the individual attention, care, and sensitivity he brings to each case. Mr. D’Arco is renowned among his peers for his outstanding ethical standards and commitment to resolving complex legal issues with minimal conflict. In recognition for his work in divorce and family law, Mr. D’Arco has been honored by many legal organizations, including The Leading Lawyers Network (awarded Leading Lawyer recognition consecutively each year since 2008) and Super Lawyers Magazine (awarded Super Lawyers recognition consecutively each year since 2010). His peers selected him as an Illinois Super Lawyer in the area of Family Law; a recognition designated to the top 5% of lawyers in Illinois, and was featured in Super Lawyers and Chicago Magazine. In addition, Mr. D’Arco has been listed consecutively each year, since 2015, in the “Best Lawyers in America,” the oldest and most respected peer-reviewed publication of its kind.

In 2020, Mr. D’Arco earned yet another credentialing as a Certified Financial Litigator. This prestigious CFL designation means Mr. D’Arco went through additional rigorous education and testing in handling financial issues related to divorce and family law including: forensic accounting, business valuation, financial statement analysis, tax return analysis, compensation issues, and cash flow for purposes of support.

Mr. D’Arco’s astute perspective and ability to make crucial decisions based on solid facts, earned him a seat on the firm’s Executive Committee.

A well-known authority in his field and well-respected among his peers, Mr. D’Arco is a frequent speaker on family law, business valuations, trial procedure, evidence, and the law.

“If you’re about to go through a divorce or custody litigation, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON ANY OTHER ATTORNEY. Let me repeat this: DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON ANY OTHER ATTORNEY. I was referred to John at the beginning of my litigation and due to his retainer requirements, I used other attorneys (2 to be exact) because their retainer was “cheaper.” After thousands paid to the other attorneys and ultimately a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, I now know my initial decision was a mistake. After my second attorney, I had to become my own “attorney” and legal advocate by printing out the 750 ILCS 5/505 statute to study it in depth. Once litigation became too much (self-employed and needed to focus on business rather than typing motions, replying to motions, filing motions, etc.) and my stress level was through the roof (to the point of exhaustion and anxiety ridden), I called John again. As I recited sections of the 750 ILCS 5/505 that applied to my case, he would finish my sentence with the remaining language of the section I was referring to. My other attorney’s did not adhere to the statute at all during my litigation, kept “kicking the can down the road,” and filed non-legal based motions/responses. The 750 ILCS 5/505 statute should be your “bible” if you’re a family law attorney and it amazes me how neither of my previous attorneys adhered to the statute. After that conversation, I knew I had to “beg, borrow, or steal” to get his retainer (I should also mention his hourly is very reasonable!). Once I hired John, the Judge had a different tone, the GAL had a different tone, and the opposing counsel had a different tone. In fact, everything was finalized within one month of hiring John. I can’t say enough good stuff about John. John, if you read this review, please know I’m forever grateful for your services and the emotional & mental relief you brought to my life. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!”
